Richard Notkin

Richard Notkin a little bit on what his art is about.

I like this video. It tells you about Richard and why he makes his tea pots, tile installations with a focus on war and destruction. while on some of his outlooks I do not agree with I do like that he cares about what he does.

Richard Notkin talks about slip casting.

In this interesting video he shows how he slip casts and why he does it.
It was great. I like that even though he might only be replicating a piece five times he will still make a mold for it. They are very intricate teapots. and would take a long time to replicate by sculpting by hand.

  1. After watching the videos, and hearing his artist statement, do you see what he's saying in his actual work? Is that work communicating successfully? Questions like, why the tea pot? why so detail oriented? they're answered for us showing purpose behind each of his choices. So even if we disagree with what he's saying we can still say that he is expressing himself really clearly. nice post!
